Milo Hamish Ferguson: What the Evidence Supports, and What It Doesn’t

Milo Hamish Ferguson is the son of comedian Craig Ferguson, according to a 2010 NBC Los Angeles report. A separate, documented animator named Milo Ferguson has directed a short film that won an audience award at Outfest in 2021. One article reports that the two are the same person. We found no second source, and many other online “biographies” of this name are unsourced or wrong.

What can actually be verified

Short answer: one family fact is well supported, and the rest depends on which question you ask.

NBC Los Angeles reported on July 14, 2010 that Craig Ferguson and his wife were jointly raising his 9-year-old son, Milo Hamish. NBC credited People magazine for that detail. We could not open the People piece.

Several biography sites give Milo’s birth year as 2001. We read them only as search excerpts, and they appear to rely on common underlying information. The year fits NBC’s report: a child who was 9 on July 14, 2010 was born between mid-July 2000 and mid-July 2001.

Dated evidence What it shows Strength

August 2021, Outfest winners lists A short called Jupiter & Europa, directed by Milo Ferguson, won the Experimental Short Audience Award Moderate to strong (see below)
Undated, Lightbox Expo participant page Milo Ferguson, listed as an animator based in the NYC area Moderate (self-described, undated)
September 2023, Amomama article Says Craig Ferguson’s son is the animator Weak to moderate (single outlet, no cited sources)

Two questions, not one

Short answer: an animator named Milo Ferguson exists and is documented. Whether that is Craig Ferguson’s son rests on one article.

Most pages blur these two questions together, so we separate them.

Question 1: Is there a working animator named Milo Ferguson?

Yes. A Lightbox Expo participant page describes them as an award-winning animator based in the NYC area. It says they work as a location designer and background artist at Studio Flimpo, an independent studio they co-founded. The page is undated, so we can’t say whether that is still current.

Jupiter & Europa is documented in several places. NewFest’s listing credits the 2-minute film to director Milo Ferguson. A winners list that carries a Deadline headline names the film as the Experimental Short Audience Award winner at Outfest Los Angeles 2021. That page sits on an unusual domain, and we could not check it against Outfest’s own site. IMDb’s awards page agrees, but IMDb is partly user-edited.

Question 2: Is that Milo Ferguson the son of Craig Ferguson?

An Amomama article says so. We read it through a mirror copy, and the article names no sources. None of the festival or event pages mention Craig Ferguson. “Milo Ferguson” is also not a rare name. Until a second source or Milo’s own statement confirms the link, treat it as reported, not established.

Other careers attached to the name

Short answer: we found no evidence for any of them.

Other pages that rank for the full name describe an Australian satirist and author, a national data-science figure, and a general “rising star” with several advocacy causes. None cites a source, names an employer or publication, or links to anything verifiable. They don’t match the family details in the NBC report either.

How to spot a scraped or AI-written biography

Short answer: check for sources, specifics, and consistency.

  • Sources. A real biography points to interviews, filings or published work.
  • Specifics. Phrases like “methodical rise” or “quickly becoming a name to watch” replace titles, dates and places.
  • Arithmetic. One page we read gives a birth date of July 18, 1998. A child born then would have been 12 in July 2010, not 9. Another page lists the wrong mother, and one describes Milo as the stepbrother of Craig Ferguson’s younger son, though both are Craig’s sons.
  • Hosting. Several results sat on unusual hostnames, such as development, course-platform or file-transfer subdomains. That is a warning sign, not proof.
  • Neighbors. The pages we opened sometimes sat beside unrelated articles, such as chemistry guides.

Unrelated results also appear. UK school pages describe a wellbeing programme called “Hamish and Milo”, which has no connection to this person.

Where public interest ends

Short answer: Milo’s published work is fair to discuss. Their private life is not.

Milo has put films, panels and a Q&A into public view, so their professional work is a legitimate subject. Being a famous person’s child does not make someone’s family details, identity, location or school history public property, so we leave those out. We also draw no conclusions about Milo’s personal life from their films or from the festivals where those films screened. If Milo publishes their own statement, that should replace every claim here that rests on third parties.

How we verified this

We searched the full name and related terms. We opened the NBC Los Angeles article, the Lightbox Expo page, and a mirror copy of the Amomama article in full. We read other sources, including festival lists and biography sites, as search excerpts. We could not open People, Outfest’s own site or Milo’s personal pages. We found no primary records and made no direct contact. We will update this article if stronger sources appear.
